Mrs. Dean is a recurring character in Heathers. She was the mother of Jason Dean. She committed suicide when he was young.
She is portrayed by the late Shannen Doherty.
Biography[]
Ten years prior to the events of the series, Mrs. Dean cleaned and tidied her house before dousing it with gasoline and setting it on fire in time for her husband and young son, JD, to arrive home. She waved to JD from the upstairs window before shooting herself in the head. (Pilot)
JD later spoke to her whilst under the effects of nitrous oxide gas at the dentist. During this conversation, she encouraged him to take larger action against Westerburg High School and provided him with a gun. (Reindeer Games)
Before leaving for prom, where he would carry out his endgame, JD imagined speaking to his mother once again. She told him that everything she did, including the incident, was for him. (Are We Going to Prom or Hell?).
Personality[]
Little is known about Mrs. Dean's personality, but JD described as a 'troubled' woman who felt nothing.
Physical appearance[]
Mrs. Dean had brown eyes , fair skin and long brown hair which she would always wear in a ponytail with a red scrunchie. Her description matches the original Heather Duke's appearance who she is implied to be.

- Her red scrunchie refers to actress Shannen Doherty's original portrayal of Heather Duke in the Heathers film.
- She wears her scrunchie in all of her appearances.
- Although not confirmed, Mrs. Dean is heavily implied to be Heather Duke from the original Heathers film grown up. Should this be true, this makes her first name Heather and her age around 38 at the time of her suicide.
- Mrs. Dean is the first character to die, and the first to commit suicide, in the series.
- Bud and JD refer to her death as 'the incident'.
- The Dean family is mentioned to have moved around America several times due to Bud's job. The family were most likely in Sherwood at the time of Mrs. Dean's suicide as Anne Sawyer and Mrs. Finn alluded to her death around the same time it occurred. (She's Going to Cry)
