Martha hosts a wine night for Maurice Dennis to reminisce on memories of their youth. She reveals that she gave up her dream of moving to New York when she became pregnant with Heather Chandler. Maurice notes how Heather is just as talented as Martha, and that he would like Heather to play the main role in the school play but Martha disagrees, making comments about Heather's weight and calling her talentless; unbeknownst to her, Heather was listening in on the conversation.
Later on, when dropping Heather off at school to audition for the play, she reminds Heather that it's not too late to skip the audition.
